I love spending time with baby S, specially when I get to hear her laugh and I can interact with her, but there are moments when I am struggling trying to find activities to fill her wake window. I want to make sure that the activities we do are age appropriate, keep her entertained, and she is learning or advancing her skills. I compiled a list of different activities here that are the ones that we like the most and that I found most helpful for baby. Keep in mind that babies grow and develop at different rates, so choose the activity for your little one accordingly.

Sensory Development Activities

As a parent, I understand the importance of sensory development in infants. Sensory activities help to develop a baby’s senses and stimulate their brain. Here are a few sensory development activities that you can do with your 6-month-old baby.

Tummy Time

Tummy time is an essential activity for your 6-month-old baby. It helps to develop their neck, back, and shoulder muscles, which are important for crawling and sitting. During tummy time, you can place your baby on their tummy on a soft mat and encourage them to lift their head and look around. You can also place toys in front of them to encourage them to reach out and grab them. I love putting my daughter on a baby floor mat and then surrounding her with different toys so she can start turning around and reaching for the one that catches her attention the most.

Textured Toys

Textured toys are a great way to stimulate your baby’s sense of touch. You can give your baby toys with different textures, such as soft, rough, bumpy, or smooth. You can also use textured fabrics, such as a soft blanket, to play peek-a-boo with your baby. Another great activity, but just a little messy, is letting your baby splash water. Babies tend to love doing that and it is a great sensory experience.
