My fertility journey over the last three years has been a long an interesting journey. I never thought being able to grow our family and add a little one was going to be such a herculean task. I didn’t even understand how there could be unexplained infertility. My partner and I went from a vasectomy reversal to trying intrauterine insemination a year ago. The hormones, the tests, the waiting, and the disappointment when once again it didn’t work was so much to take. Every month we had hope, we lost it, and we tried to hype each other up for the next treatment to come.
Last year, we both decided to take a break from doing IUI treatments because we both wanted to focus on our health. J and I needed to lose weight, work on reducing our stress load, and I had to take care of my A1C numbers, which had gone up within the last year. My nurse practitioner recommended that I started Mounjaro, a new medicine to help lower my A1C and help me lose weight while on it.
What is Mounjaro and How did it work?
Mounjaro is the brand name for a medicine called trizepatide, the medicine helps improve blood sugar in adults. If you want more specific medical information on it, I suggest you go on the website or ask your doctor. I am not a medical professional, so I am only going to share my experience.
I started with 5mg of Mounjaro every week. The medicine is taken subcutaneously through an injection, the needle is so thin I didn’t even feel it. What I did instantly feel were the effects of the medicine in my body, I was grossed out by even the thought of food, I felt extra thirsty, some nausea, and for the first couple of days after the injection my anxiety was pretty high. After a couple of days my anxiety was under control and it felt nice not thinking about food all the time. I made it a point to eat small meals because if you don’t eat while on this medicine, you can have a low blood sugar attack (hypoglycemia). After a month and a week on Mounjaro, I had lost a lot of the weight I put on after 2020, and my A1C numbers were looking great. I truly loved using the medicine, especially because it is not a stimulant that messes with my heart.
Now, at this point I was supposed to get my period, but I knew that because of Mounjaro my period could be late, so I didn’t think much of…
